Introduction to Basketmakers,
2004 |

This triptych was my first work to come out of my Earthwatch Art & Archaeology Fellowship. The subject of the archaeology field work was the family in the center image. They were of the Sauks, a small Native American tribe living in the foothills of the Cascade Mountains of Western Washington. A few of the women in the image were known to be highly skilled basket makers. Panel one is about the process of archaeology field work, panel two is about the subjects of the study, and panel three is about the artifact as a tool for connecting with past peoples.
