Bantam River
Beech, acrylic paint, liinseed oil, 2013

The Bantam is up in north central Connecticut. There is a great short stretch of it that meanders through a wetland and is home to at least seven beaver colonies.

This paddle was a first and last attempt at using beech. An excellent wood to carve, it did not like water one bit, absorbing water through the oil finish. The tip has several small splits that occurred when it dried out.
